The College of Agriculture and Food Science is composed of institutes and centers, namely Agricultural Systems Institute - ASI (formerly Agricultural Systems Cluster); Institute of Animal Science - IAS (formerly part of the Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster); Institute of Crop Science - ICropS (formerly Crop Science Cluster or CSC); Institute of Food Science and Technology - IFST (formerly Food Science Cluster); Institute of Weed Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology - IWEP (formerly part of the Crop Protection Cluster or CPC); Institute of Plant Breeding - IPB and Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center - PHTRC, now a separate units of CSC; Dairy Training and Research Institute - DTRI from ADSC; and the National Crop Protection Center - NCPC from CPC. It is also home to national institutes and centers namely, the Central Experiment Station (CES), and La Granja Research and Training Station (LGRTS).

The nine CAFS units thematically correspond to the major subsectors (industries) in Philippine agribusiness, namely: ICS and IPB with field, industrial and horticultural crops; NCPC and IWEP with crop protection; IPB and ICropS with seed; ASI with fertilizer; IAS withpoultry and livestock; DTRI and IAS with dairy; PHTRC and ICropS with fresh farm produce (fruits, vegetables, ornamentals and other perishable crops); and IFST with food and beverage.

Such change is in view of the paradigm shift of UPLBCA that addresses the value chanin from primary production in the farms to food on the table.
